Andy Robertson has claimed that Aston Villa’s John McGinn did a ‘good job’ as Scotland captain, as the Liverpool defender told his press conference.
With the Liverpool left-back absent through illness during Scotland’s 1-1 friendly draw against Poland last time out, it was Villa’s all-action midfielder who was handed that all-important role.
The 27-year-old is an experienced player in this Scotland side that is pushing towards the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and his recent responsibilities are proof of that.
Now that Robertson has returned to action and will be available for Scotland’s trip to Austria on Tuesday night, he will return as captain.
The Liverpool flyer shared that his side are ‘lucky’ that they have so many leaders without the armband within the team.
“No, no (no words of advice to McGinn beforehand),” said Robertson. “John is well-accustomed to that now. He’s a leader in his own sense.
“We are lucky that we have quite a few in the changing room now. We have captains at different clubs, which is so important and that helps when one of us is missing.
“McGinn did a good job in leading the boys and it was a good performance on Thursday. We look to build on that against Austria.”

With this being the final game before players return to domestic action, it wouldn’t be a surprise if this isn’t an all-action game played with the foot on the accelerator.
Added with that, the Scots will be coming up against a wounded animal in Austria, who won’t be going to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
They suffered a narrow defeat against Wales last time out, with Gareth Bale netting a brace for his team.
The Welsh are now waiting for the winner of Scotland v Ukraine, which had to be postponed, with the winner of that encounter booking their golden plane ticket to Qatar.
