Leeds United legend Luciano Becchio has claimed that Marcelo Bielsa’s Championship winners are ‘in contact’ over a deal for Leganes left-back Jonathan Silva, while speaking to El Show de la PL.
That the Whites recovered from last season’s play-off heartbreak to storm to the second-tier title is impressive enough.
But when you consider that Leeds have cruised through the 2019/20 campaign without an orthadox left-back, that club-record points tally of 90 looks even more remarkable.
Barry Douglas has endured another injury-hit campaign at Elland Road but Stuart Dallas, Gianni Alioski and Jack Harrison have stepped up brilliantly in the Scotland international’s absence.
That does not mean Leeds should rest on their laurels, however, with a proven left-back at the top of many fans’ summer wish list.
According to cult hero Becchio, a 26-year-old Argentine international could be set to join compatriot Bielsa in West Yorkshire.
“Of the players that I can recommend, it is Jonathan Silva,” Leeds-mad Becchio, who now works for the Capital Group agency, says in quotes translated by AS.

“In fact, we’re already in contact with the club. Let’s see what happens in the future.”
The attack-minded Silva, who has Sporting Lisbon, Roma and Boca Juniors adorning his CV, suffered relegation from La Liga on the final day of the season this weekend.
But, after producing two goals and four assists with his swashbuckling style of play, it feels unlikely that Silva will be sticking around to play second-tier football at the Butarque.
