According to David Ornstein, Leeds do not have the finances to make a permanent signing ahead of the September 1st deadline.
What’s the story?
Well, when asked if Jesse Marsch will be signing a new left-back before the end of the transfer window, Ornstein shared an update which will surely disappoint the Elland Road faithful.
Speaking on The Athletic Football Podcast, Ornstein said: “Everything we’re hearing from Leeds is that there’s no finance available now to do further incoming business, so if they were to, I presume it would have to be a loan. I don’t know of anything being imminent.”
Leeds supporters will not have enjoyed hearing that snippet while listening to the podcast during their morning routines today, to say the least.
So far this summer, Victor Orta has overseen the £22m signing of Brenden Aaronson and the £21m addition of Luis Sinisterra. Tyler Adams also arrived in a £20m deal, while Marc Roca was signed for £10m.
Additionally, the arrivals of Rasmus Kristensen for £10m and Darko Gyabi for £5m take the spending up to £88m.
However, Leeds earned £100m from the sales of £45m Kalvin Phillips and £55m Raphinha, so they are actually in profit.
Therefore, we aren’t quite sure how there isn’t enough money left to make at least one more permanent addition ahead of the September 1st deadline, especially at left-back, where another option is definitely needed.
Who Leeds could sign on loan
As Ornstein states, Leeds could make a loan addition before the deadline, so let’s see who could arrive.
One move Orta could make is the loan signing of Christian Pulisic, who has attracted interest from Leeds and Newcastle as he struggles for action under Thomas Tuchel.
Chelsea have denied him a loan exit, although amid claims that the club’s stance has upset the American, that saga may not be over yet.

Furthermore, some funds could actually arrive for another permanent signing thanks to Tottenham.
The north Londoners have supposedly bid for Dan James – while the amount is undisclosed, that would free up some finances for Orta and Marsch to play with.
Keep an eye on Leeds, as there could still be one bit of business left in them before the transfer window shuts.
