Arsenal’s Premier League clash against Wolves will be officiated by Martin Atkinson in what could be a crucial match in the race for top-four.

The Premier League announced on their official website that the 50-year-old referee will take charge of Thursday’s night fixture at the Emirates Stadium, a decision that has been blasted by Arsenal fans.

Atkinson has taken charge of two Arsenal league games this season, both resulting in defeats against Manchester City at the start of the campaign and to Manchester United at Old Trafford.

And it is the game against City that Arsenal fans will remember when it comes to Atkinson, with the referee sending off Granit Xhaka with a straight red card for a reckless challenge early in the match.

With Arsenal’s disciplinary record this season once again being one of the worst in the Premier League, supporters are already fearing what damage Atkinson can cause the Gunners against Wolves.

A win against Bruno Lage’s side will be massive for the Gunners’ hopes for top-four, with Arsenal beating Wolves two weeks aga at the Molineux 1-0 despite having Gabriel Martinelli sent off.

However, with Wolves beating both Tottenham and Leicester City since that loss, the Midlands-based club could come to Arsenal with a vengeance for the north London side. And the appointment of Atkinson has done nothing to calm the nerves for Gooners.

With Arsenal enduring more than their fair share of harsh refereeing decisions this season, supporters on social media are bracing themselves for another calamitous display from Atkinson against Wolves.
