Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes admitted he is ‘disappointed’ amid the club’s failure to tie Rangers target Scott Wright down to a new, long-term deal, while speaking to the Evening Express.
Two years ago this month, the Glasgow giants snapped up Glen Kamara on a bargain deal from Dundee, six months before his contract expired.
It is fair to say that was £50,000 very well spent.
The Finland international is now one of the most influential footballers in the Scottish game, one of the first names on Steven Gerrard’s team sheet, and a major cog in a Rangers machine who have stream-rollered all before them en route to the Premiership title.
It remains to be seen whether Wright can emulate Kamara’s impact at Ibrox.
The 23-year-old would certainly arrive in similar circumstances, with Sky claiming that Rangers are looking to strike a cut-price January deal for a man who has produced five assists in 16 matches this term.

“We have been trying for the last three months to get Scott re-signed as he is a key player,” bemoaned Dons boss McInnes.
“We are now into January and have been speaking for awhile and have been unable to reach an agreement.
“I need to stress it is not a financial issue, but Scott wants to look at other potential options.
“We are disappointed, but it does not change anything about how I feel about Scott.”
McInnes insists that Wright, who rose through the ranks at Aberdeen after joining all the way back in 2008, will continue to play for the club until he puts pen to paper with a rival outfit.
Where Wright fits into Rangers’ plans, however, is anyone’s guess.
Ianis Hagi and Scott Arfield have impressed in the number ten role in recent months, while Ryan Kent has taken his game to a whole new level on the left side this season.
