Silverware seems to follow former Tottenham players wherever they go, and that has again been the case for Real Madrid star Luka Modric with the Spanish Super Cup.

Los Blancos were victors in Saudi Arabia the Croatian midfielder and Karim Benzema eased past Athletic Bilbao 2-0. The Super Cup win now puts Modric’s total trophy haul with Madrid at 17.

The former Spurs midfielder didn’t win a single thing in his four years in north London, with Tottenham as a whole winning 24 trophies in their entire history as per Transfermarkt.

Indeed, it is a quite sensational achievement from Modric to be part of such a successful period of Madrid’s history. The midfielder has won four UEFA Champions League titles as well as La Liga twice.

As for Spurs, Antonio Conte’s side have not won silverware since 2008 in the form of the League Cup, with Tottenham’s only shot of a trophy this season only being the FA Cup.

Spurs sit 26 points behind Manchester City in the title race and were eliminated by Chelsea in the League Cup. And Madrid’s Super Cup win this week has infuriated Tottenham supporters on social media.

After all, Modric has been one of the most successful players to leave Tottenham in recent years. And Madrid’s success in the Super Cup has taken the midfielder to an outrageous title haul with the Spanish giants.
