Reports linking Celtic and Rangers with a move for Airdrie forward Thomas Robert have come as ‘no surprise’ to the League One club’s sporting director Stuart Millar, as he told Not The Old Firm.
It is not often one of the most talked-about transfers of the summer involves a club from the Scottish third tier but, back in July, Airdrie made headlines on both sides of the border.
The highly-rated Robert was linked with not only Celtic and Rangers but also a number of Premier League clubs before opting for North Lanarkshire instead.
If reports are to be believed, however, the Paris-born striker could be on the move again very soon.
The Scottish Sun reports that Nick Hammond, Celtic’s head of recruitment, watched Robert in action against East Fife earlier in December.
Hoops scout Tosh McKinlay is also keeping a close eye on the former Montpellier youngster, with Rangers expressing an interest too.

“We are aware a number of clubs are monitoring Thomas Robert’s situation,” Airdrie director Millar explained.
“It’s no great surprise considering the impact the young lad has had in a short space of time at our club, winning both our club and divisional player of the month awards.”
Interestingly, Robert only signed a one-year contract when he joined Airdrie over the summer with his father, the former Newcastle winger Laurent Robert, backing his decision to put pen to paper with the third-tier outfit.
His move to League One appears to have been driven by a desire to test himself against battle-scarred and blood-thirsty defenders in the lower leagues, allowing him to adapt to life in Britain before joining a bigger club with bigger expectations.
