Speaking on The Square Ball Podcast, Angus Kinnear has left the door open for Leeds to do a bit of business in the January transfer window.

The Whites’ CEO was speaking on the podcast, and as you can imagine, one of the burning questions that the hosts wanted to ask him was about the January window.

Kinnear said that it’s unlikely that Leeds will do much in January, but if the right opportunity comes along, he’s said they will be ready to spring into action.

“We’re always open to taking opportunities, and Raphinha was just that type of opportunity.

“There is a list of our core targets that we’re going after, and then there are other players that we think obviously we would love, but for whatever reason we think they’re not within our reach, it might be because they’re happy at their club, their contract’s too long, their salary is too high, their wages are too high and they won’t consider coming to Leeds.

“That’s where we rely on Victor’s network of contacts when he gets a call a week before the window closed that Raphinha is actually now available when we didn’t think he would be, and he suddenly jumps to the top of our list.

“Now, there’s always the chance that something like that happens in January, but the reality is in January that firstly it’s a very difficult window to generate any value in, because people are panicking and paying over the odds and we don’t want to do that.

“The second thing is that the summer window closed much later than it normally does, so January is coming much sooner so the need to readjust is not required, the third thing is that we all know that Marcelo takes weeks to integrate a new player into the squad.”

This is probably the best way for Leeds to operate in this window.

They don’t need to add too much to their squad after spending nearly £100m in the summer, but if a player comes along at a price that is too good to turn down, they’ll go for it.

There’s no point making changes for change’s sake, but if a quality player comes onto the market, the Whites will be there waiting to pounce.

It’s not likely to be a lively window at Elland Road, but it’s certainly worth keeping one eye on what happens at Leeds in the coming weeks.
