Reported Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers summer target Max Aarons says Norwich City are now settled after plenty of summer transfer talk, Eastern Daily Press report.
The Canaries suffered relegation from the Premier League last season, prompting several top-flight clubs to eye their top talent during the summer transfer window.
Ben Godfrey and Jamal Lewis joined Everton and Newcastle United respectively, while Todd Cantwell, Emiliano Buendia and Max Aarons were also linked with exits.
The Mirror (print edition, page 67, July 19, 2020) claimed Wolves were keen on Aarons while The Telegraph reported that same month of Aston Villa’s interest.
Sky Germany, meanwhile, claimed Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich contacted Aarons’ representatives to express an interest in signing the right-back in an £18 million deal.
A move away from Norwich ultimately never materialised for Aarons and now the exciting fullbacks claims he and his teammates have put the speculation behind them.
“No matter what club you’re at, there’s always speculation around players during the transfer window. We handled it all as best we could. The window is shut now so everyone is focused and pulling together. If you’re not pulling in the same direction, you won’t play. But everyone is together and we’re all settled now,” Aarons explained.
Villa strengthened their right-back options by signing Matty Cash from Nottingham Forest.
Wolves, on the other hand, added Nelson Semedo from Barcelona following Matt Docherty’s exit while youngster Ki-Jana However arrived as a long-term prospect.
The Midlands duo may have felt Norwich’s asking price for Aarons was too high.
The Canaries talent will no doubt have his suitors again come January, and Norwich’s position in the Championship table may impact their decision.
Daniel Farke’s side have started the new season in reasonable form, picking up 14 points from eight games as they momentarily sit in fifth place in the league.
