Thomas Delaney has been in fine form for both Bremen and Denmark and has reportedly piqued the interest of Spurs and Burnley.
Thomas Delaney’s reputation appears to be growing by the game.
Not content with netting a brilliant hat-trick for Denmark against Albania in last week’s international break, the box-to-box midfielder returned to Bundesliga action in style with an inspired flick and volley to earn Werder Bremen a point against Hertha Berlin on Saturday.
Delaney’s opportunist finish may not have matched Dele Alli’s 2015/16 Goal of the Season winner against Crystal Palace but it is clear to see why Tottenham Hotspur have been linked.
Weser Kurier claimed that the 26-year-old had piqued Spurs’ interest and it remains to be seen whether they will pay Bremen’s £15 million asking price for Christian Eriksen’s international team-mate.
However, Delaney himself has words of encouragement, admitting “I would like to play in the Premier League,” as reported by Bild.
Furthermore, the report states that the Bundesliga outfit will consider selling the in-demand midfielder, who was linked with Burnley in the summer and has previously been targeted by Everton, if a club is willing to pay big for his signature.
Delaney is not exactly the type of signing Tottenham usually go for at the age of 26 but he appears to be on a real upward trajectory at a relatively late stage of his career.
The midfielder only moved to the Bundesliga in January after arriving in Bremen from Copenhagen but his energetic displays and ability to make perfectly timed late runs into the penalty area have seen him stand out in Germany’s top flight.
Burnley, meanwhile, have shown greater ambition in the transfer market recently, making Chris Wood their biggest ever signing and being repaid by two goals in two games. Signing Delaney would be another statement for a club who appear to be laying down the foundations for a long-stay in the top flight.
