Werder Bremen sporting director Frank Baumann has responded to speculation linking the German side with a move for Celtic left-back Emilio Izaguirre, the Daily Record reports.

Sky Sports claimed Werder were keen on a deal for Izaguirre at the end of last week, after the Honduran fell behind youngster Kieran Tierney in the Bhoys pecking order.

However, the 30-year-old, whose contract at Parkhead expires at the end of the current campaign, will not be Bundesliga bound, according to Baumann.

“Emilio Izaguirre is not a player we are interested in,” he said, as quoted by the Daily Record.

Celtic are said to want £1 million for Izaguirre, who arrived at the club six years ago from Motagua.

The Honduran side are also claimed to have shown an interest, though the report states the player will see out his contract in Glasgow.

Izaguirre was a regular for the Bhoys before the emergence of Tierney last season, in which he appeared on 25 occasions – his lowest total since 2011-12.

The 85-cap international, who was named Scottish Premier League Player of the Year in 2011, is a mere 14 appearances shy of a quarter-century for Brendan Rodgers’ side.
