Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka has made an impressive start to life at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes new signing Granit Xhaka will have a big role to play in the club’s future and praised the midfielder on his start to life in North London, Sky Sports report.
The Switzerland international joined the Gunners from Borussia Monchengladbach this summer, a deal which many supporters praised with the team in need of adding another holding midfielder.
Xhaka has made an excellent start to his Arsenal career as he immediately established himself in the first-team, and boss Wenger believes he has a huge part to play in the coming years.
“Every week he [Xhaka] is stronger and better. I think he will play a big part,” Wenger told Sky Sports.
“He has the stature, the power the strength. Many players it took some time to get into the team, it happens. Look, in one or two occasions [he struggled]. I think he has adapted quite well. His physical strength and power allows him to pretend to play straight away.
“I prefer him as a box-to-box player. He has the engine to have an impact with his runs. He is highly focused. Elneny as well, both of them are focused and top, top quality.”
Arsenal now have an abundance of options in midfield, what with Santi Cazorla, Francis Coquelin, Mohamed Elneny and Aaron Ramsey all capable of playing in the deeper role.
The competition for places has increased the quality in Arsenal’s ranks but some may now have question marks over their future, such as Jack Wilshere, who joined Bournemouth on loan on deadline day.
Xhaka, 23, has started two Premier League matches thus far and is expected to start the Gunners’ clash with Hull City at the KC Stadium this weekend.
