Arsene Wenger has been reflecting on Arsenal’s defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
Arsenal manager Harry Kane has been speaking about Harry Kane – in comments published by the club’s official website – following the Tottenham Hotspur striker’s match-winning performance this weekend.
The England under-21 international scored both goals in a 2-1 victory, sealing a hard-fought win after Mesut Ozil had initially put Arsenal ahead.
Arsenal did not play particularly badly, defending well for the most part only to see the in-form Kane have the last laugh. And that is something Wenger reflected on ruefully in his post-match interview.
“He was good as always,” Wenger said of the Tottenham player. “He grows and he has a good determination. He doesn’t stop, he keeps going.
“The regret I have is that we gave him a cheap goal.”
Arsenal still have plenty to play for this season but this weekend’s result will be a tough one to take, not only because it was a North London derby but because Tottenham climbed ahead of them in the table as a result.
Without Alexis Sanchez in their side to drive them forward, Arsenal came up short against their fierce rivals; but the fact that Wenger regrets not a missed shot but a porous defence suggests he had worked on ways to keep Kane at bay, only to see him break through regardless.
