Everton have been linked with a move for Arsenal attacker Theo Walcott.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been quoted by Sky Sports as saying he does not want to stand in the way of Theo Walcott’s World Cup chances, as Everton remain interested in the England international.
The 28-year-old has been confirmed as a target for Everton by Toffees boss Sam Allardyce, who said the former Southampton winger would be a “great addition” and that “some negotiations are going on”.
Walcott has been out of favour in north London this season, making just 15 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals and adding five assists for Gunners.
But with the likes of Alex Iwobi and Alexis Sanchez above Walcott in the pecking order, it appears that Walcott will not be given the sufficient game time to be able to force his way into Gareth Southgate’s set up.
“We will see. We have a good relationship still and I don’t want him to be frustrated or to lose an opportunity to go to the World Cup,” Wenger said, when asked about Walcott’s future at the Emirates Stadium.
“Theo went to the World Cup in Germany in 2006 and we are now in 2018, and he has not been since [back to the World Cup], for different reasons.”
Everton have plenty of options out wide but Yannick Bolasie has only just returned from injury, while Ademola Lookman, Nikola Vlasic and Aaron Lennon have hardly provided the quality required.
In his 13 years at Arsenal, Walcott has played 398 times in all competitions, scoring 108 times as well as adding 78 assists and has become a household name within the Premier League, renowned for his pace and trickery.
