Gabriele Marcotti has backed Antonio Conte’s call to ban certain foods at Tottenham and claimed ‘Arsene Wenger did the same’ when he first joined Arsenal, as he told ESPN.

The Italian journalist touched upon Wenger’s strict ways when he first joined Arsenal in 1996 and how that shaped the whole game going forward.

Arsenal became a dominant force after that and many copied the scientific-like approach Wenger took in order to get the best out of his players, both physically and mentally.

The new man in Tottenham’s dugout is as demanding as anyone in world football right now.

It has been suggested by the Athletic that certain foods items, the use of butter and oil, have been banned or reduced by the Serie A title-winner.

Marcotti defended that idea and shared the mixed feelings certain managers have on this topic.

“This whole thing about banning ketchup or whatever,” said Marcotti. “There is a whole cycle to it.

“If you have lived in England as long as I have, then you see it. Arsene Wenger did the same thing at Arsenal, they start winning.

“Other managers then tried to copy it and then they were like, ‘oh, but the players are sad’. Or worst what they do is, they don’t have ketchup or mayo at the training ground, but then they leave and get a large donner kebab on their way back from training.

“Then you have other managers like Roy Hodgson saying ‘well, we want the players to be happy, so let them have a little bit of ketchup and mayo in moderation’.”

Well, it’s pretty clear, it’s either Conte’s way or the high way and he will boot you out if you don’t adhere to his rules.

He has proven on more than one occasion that his strict ways and over-demanding style works a treat.

Just ask the Juventus, Chelsea and Inter fans because he has helped deliverer a league title for each and every one of them.

If he does the same in North London, then they will probably build a statue of him outside of Hotspur Way.
