Arsenal sit one place behind fierce rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League table.

Arsenal earned a crucial 1-0 win over Burnley yesterday after a controversial stoppage time Laurent Koscielny goal, and Arsene Wenger explained how his side were spurred on by Tottenham’s victory over Manchester City earlier in the day, as quoted by the Express.
The Gunners were long way from their best yesterday, but in contrast to recent years, they managed to grind out a result, and took all three points back to London with them.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Wenger highlighted Spurs’ 2-0 win over Manchester City as a key reason behind this side’s desire to win yesterday, as quoted by the Express.
“It’s a big win because City lost today. We were five points behind them and when you are five points behind a top quality team, when you have an opportunity to get a bit closer you cannot miss it. And that would’ve been the negative aspect of our game today had we not won.”
Arsenal now sit just two points behind City in the table as they head into the international break, and after a draw and a loss over this past week, all of a sudden Pep Guardiola’s men are not looking like the formidable force they were before.

Wenger’s men have a kind looking fixture list ahead of them after the international break.
Home league games against Swansea City and Middlesbrough are followed by a trip to Sunderland, before what could be one of the biggest and most important games of the season – Tottenham at home.
One suspects that the result of that game will provide a more acute indication of who are the more likely title challengers out of the two North London rivals.
