Arsene Wenger has praised Aaron Ramsey, comparing him to Chelsea and England midfielder.

Arsenal are preparing to welcome Aaron Ramsey back to action this weekend, in long overdue news for fans of the club.

The Welshman was in supreme form before getting injured on Boxing Day, and his absence has certainly been a blow to the Gunners.

His potential return comes at a crucial time, with a pivotal Premier League game with Everton, followed by a FA Cup semi-final versus Wigan the next two games on Arsenal’s fixture list.

Ramsey’s all round game was essential to Arsenal early this season – but it was his goals which really stood out.

The midfielder scored eight Premier League goals, 13 in all competitions, and Arsene Wenger has talked up these qualities by comparing him to Chelsea’s Frank Lampard, one of the most prolific goalscorers in the division over the past decade.

He told The Guardian: “The number of goals Ramsey has scored is tremendous for a midfielder. He turns up in the box. He is a bit Lampard-ish. There is a lot more to come from him.”

This season in the Premier League, over the first 19 weeks prior to his injury, Ramsey outscored the Chelsea veteran. In fact, he scored more goals than any midfielder at any club.

Lampard’s highest Premier League tally came in Chelsea’s 2009/10 double winning season when he struck 22 league goals. This season he has just five, and looks set to break a run of 10 consecutive seasons in which he has reached double figures for goals scored.

If Ramsey can achieve that kind of longevity, he will be doing just fine, and it may not be too late for him to reach double figures just yet, with six league games remaining between now and the end of the season.
