George Williams played with the Tottenham Hotspur and England star at MK Dons and could face him on the international stage this month.
Dele Alli’s former MK Dons teammate, Wales international George Williams, has told reporters, as quoted by Reuters, that he hopes to come up against the Tottenham Hotspur and England star at Euro 2016 this month.
Alli joined Spurs in February and enjoyed a remarkable debut season in his first campaign at White Hart Lane, scoring nine goals and winning the PFA Young Player of the Year award.
Before moving to Mauricio Pochettino’s side, the 20-year-old had been at MK Dons since the age of 10, rising through the ranks and ultimately scoring 24 goals in 88 appearances for the League One club.
At Dons at the same time was Williams, and the forward, who currently plays for Fulham and followed Alli in forcing his way into the senior set-up of his native country, insisted that he always knew his friend would turn out to be a special player.
Williams also admitted that he hopes he will get the opportunity to line up opposite his old teammate on the biggest stage in European international football when England meet Wales later in June.
The 20-year-old Welshman said, as quoted by Reuters: “That would just be a fairytale story, wouldn’t it? Coming up through the same team at 10-years-old and playing against each other in the Euros.
“It was always me and Dele. It was always who could get one over on the other in training, who could nutmeg someone. He can do things with the ball that normal people can’t, and the way he thinks on the pitch is unbelievable.
“His work ethic’s unbelievable. He’s only going to get better. But I could tell from when I first saw him that he was special.”
Whereas Williams is used mainly in rotation for Wales, Alli has become a bona fide star for England and looks certain to start in midfield behind current club teammate Harry Kane for Roy Hodgson’s side in France.
