QPR currently sit 11th in the Championship table but just four points off the top six.

Queens Park Rangers loanee Nahki Wells has spoken out on his current team’s hopes of making the Championship playoffs, deeming them to be not far off from being an outfit capable of making the top six.

When the Burnley striker arrived at Loftus Road on August 23, QPR were at the foot of the table, having suffered four defeats in a row and had conceded 13 goals.

Fast-forward just under five months, however, and the prospect of relegation has virtually evaporated, with the R’s now 16 points clear of 22nd-placed Reading and very much looking upwards.

Better still, there are just four points between them and sixth-placed Derby County, so a playoff tilt is a definite possibility, and with Wells having scored six and assisted three goals, he has played his part in QPR’s revival.

Wells feels that the impending return of fellow loanee Tomer Hemed, who has returned to training on the pitch after undergoing a hernia operation, will yield even more goals and even more likelihood of making the top six.

“I do have the belief because I know what this squad’s capable of,” the 28-year-old told Football.London. “We haven’t reached our full potential; we still have a few injuries which will strengthen us when they come back, and I feel like I have more goals to offer.

“When Tomer gets back fit I’m sure he’ll have goals to offer and that’s only going to increase our chances of getting better. We’re not far off; if we’d have got more points from the first four games then we’d be in the playoffs.”

Up next for Steve McClaren’s side is Saturday’s Championship home game against Preston North End.
