Leeds United fans may not be too familiar with Wellington Phoenix left back Liberato Cacace, but one Whites scout certainly is a fan.
Cacace, 18, featured for New Zealand at the Under-20 World Cup this past summer, and his impressive performances caught the eye.
The left back impressed Leeds United scout Gaby Ruiz, who told FIFA.com that he was one of 15 players who were on his radar having scouted the tournament.
Leeds may well have been keeping tabs on the teenage defender after Ruiz’s comments, and they seem to have a great chance to secure his signature.
Cacace is out of contract next summer, and Wellington Phoenix appear to be concerned about the prospect of him leaving for a move to Europe.
Phoenix general manager David Dome has told Stuff that he’s ‘conscious’ of Cacace’s situation, and really doesn’t want to see him leave the club in the near future.
Dome feels Cacace needs to be playing rather than sitting around at another club, but with just months left on his deal, it’s clear that there is some real concern that the youngster will be moving on.
Leeds have a senior left back in Barry Douglas, but with Leif Davis playing at centre back earlier this season, there could be room for another left back – and don’t be surprised if they move for Cacace after Ruiz’s comments.
