Fashion Sakala has suggested that he would prefer to stay at KV Oostende rather than sign for Rangers, while speaking to KVO’s YouTube page after another match-winning Jupiler League display.
While Kemar Roofe has helped fire Steven Gerrard’s side to the brink of glory after moving from Anderlecht to Glasgow, Sakala would arrive under a lot more scrutiny if he swaps Belgium for Scotland in 2021.
Roofe, after all, had a fine track record at Leeds United to back up his £6 million price-tag.
Sakala, in contrast, is pretty much an unknown quality on British shores.
The Daily Record claimed a few weeks back that Rangers were hoping to sign the Zambia international on a pre-contract basis, with his current deal due to expire at the end of the campaign.
The report added that Sakala was ready for a fresh challenge after three years in Oostende. But, after scoring both goals in the 2-1 weekend victory over Kortrijk, the 23-year-old didn’t exactly sound like a man praying for a move.

“It won’t be difficult for KVO to keep me here. I’m happy and the team is doing well,” said Sakala, suggesting that he would be keen to sign a new contract.
“We’ll see what happens after the season.”
Sakala has scored eight times and provided a further two assists in 18 matches this season.
The former Spartak Moscow man, who is at his best when drifting in from the left to fire shots at goal with his right foot, could potentially have been lined up to replace the 38-year-old Jermain Defoe at Ibrox.
