West Bromwich Albion and Sheffield United target Declan Gallagher is facing an uncertain future at Motherwell despite being offered a new contract, as reported by the Daily Record.
While the Baggies and the Blades have big problems at the other end of the pitch, the Premier League strugglers would certainly welcome the chance to sign a 6ft 6ins centre-half if the opportunity arises.
Former Celtic youngster Gallagher is the kind of commanding presence who thrives when his back is against the wall.
The 29-year-old was nothing short of supreme as Scotland secured qualification for Euro 2021 at Serbia’s expense a month ago and, just days after that stellar performance, TEAMtalk reported that West Brom, Sheffield United and Burnley had all shown an interest.
Gallagher will become a free agent next summer.
But while Motherwell have offered their star defender a new contract, the Lanarkshire-based outfit are under no illusions that Gallagher could be tempted by a money-spinning move south of the border.

“They’ve all been offered contracts. It’s up to (my out of contract players) what they do, but there’s a limit to what Motherwell can go to,” manager Stephen Robinson said, referring to Gallagher, midfielder Allan Campbell and goalkeeper Trevor Carson.
“It’s up to them, we’ve made our offers, we’ve tried very hard and we’ll see where that goes.
“It’s difficult. If somebody offers you £20,000 or £10,000 a week to work 20 minutes down the road, you’d take it. We don’t change people’s lives financially.”
West Brom, Sheffield United and Burnley hardly boast the deepest pockets in the Premier League, but they would still be capable of offering Gallagher a sizeable wage increase.
Slaven Bilic was still at the helm when West Brom were first linked with Gallagher but you’d think Sam Allardyce would be able to find a place for a 6ft 6ins man.
