Reported Southampton and Leicester City target Mattias Svanberg will consider his future at the end of the season despite enjoying his time at Bologna, as reported by TuttoBolognaWeb.

The Rossoblu might have calmed those relegation fears while dragging themselves into the safety of mid-table, but a disappointing bottom-half finish will not aid their attempts of keeping Svanberg at the Renato Dall’Ara for another year.

The Sweden international has stood out like a sore thumb this season; his all-action performances allegedly attracting the interest from rival clubs in Italy and abroad.

Calciomercato reported two weeks ago that Southampton and AC Milan have made enquiries about the £14 million-rated enforcer.

Svanberg is also a target for a Leicester side whose lack of midfield depth has been exposed by a brutal injury crisis in recent weeks (DiMarzio).

“(Transfer speculation) is rewarding,” admitted the former Malmo youngster. “But the fact that this has been talked about doesn’t mean much.

“The most important thing for me is to keep playing, then at the end of the season we will see what opportunities and alternatives I have.

“Now I play a lot and I feel good in Bologna – and these are the things I want.”

After starting 17 Serie A fixtures in 2020/21, Svanberg clearly has little interest in joining a club where he would be little more than a useful squad player.

But, when everyone is fit and firing, the 22-year-old would be far from guaranteed a place in the first XI at Leicester or Southampton.

Maybe another season in Emilia-Romagna would do him some good.
