Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter to heap praise on Aston Villa’s Dean Smith, in regards to his comments about rotation during the festive period.

The ex-Brentford boss was speaking after his side recorded a 1-1 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

He told Amazon Prime that he’s ‘never had to take a player off for exhaustion’ – a statement which Lineker responded to on Twitter.

You can see what the BBC Match of the Day host tweeted below.

In truth, it’s admirable to see Smith stick with a winning team.

The Villans are now unbeaten in five Premier League outings, and have won three games in that timeframe while conceding just one goal.

On a day where Crystal Palace made five changes and Leicester made seven in the game before Villa’s clash with Chelsea, Smith’s stance is commendable.

His players are in-form and have found a nice rhythm, so what’s the point in destroying their momentum?

The likes of Anwar El Ghazi, for example.

The Dutchman now has five goals in five Premier League games – we presume he would rather keep that form up, than be ‘rested’ on the bench.

It’s good to see Smith’s refreshing stance on rotation, and Lineker certainly seems to be in agreement with it.
