West Ham United are being linked with new interest in another Italian defender.

West Ham co-owner David Gold pledged he and fellow co-owner David Sullivan would back new boss Manuel Pellegrini with unprecedented spending this summer, as reported by talkSPORT.

And the signs have been good so far with Ryan Fredericks arriving on a superb free transfer from Fulham, brilliant young French centre back Issa Diop arriving from Toulouse for a club record fee of over £22 million and Lukas Fabianski snapped up from relegated Swansea City for £7 million.

The Hammers have also been linked with defender Alfie Mawson, Marlon Santos and Armando Izzo with Manuel Pellegrini prioritising improving the club’s defence – as he told whufc.com last week.
And it appears that search has widened to include Sassuolo defender Gian Marco Ferrari according to respected Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.
Di Marzio is a leading voice on Italian transfer activity and claims 26-year-old centre-back Ferrari is interesting West Ham.

Ferrari, who appeared in 31 matches for Sampdoria during a loan spell last season, is returning to Sassuolo after his option to buy was not exercised.
Di Marzio now claims Pellegrini wants the former Parma man, who is also interesting ligue 1 side Marseille.
The defender could be the third raid on Serie A by the Hammers this summer with the club also linked with Genoa star Izzo and Lazio’s Felipe Anderson.
