Hugo Lloris has stated that he is ‘not the person in charge’ to ask whether Tottenham should have kept Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen, as he told Sky Sports.
The Tottenham goalkeeper stated that it will be a ‘pleasure’ to re-unite with his former teammates when France lock horns with Belgium on Thursday evening.
The two nations will take part in the semi-finals of the UEFA Nations Super League, with Spain awaiting the winner.
Either way, there will be some form of Tottenham representation in that final because Bryan Gil and Sergio Reguilon will be hoping for minutes against either France or Belgium.
Nonetheless, Lloris labelled two of his former teammates as ‘great leaders’ ahead of their showdown tonight.
“They’re not old players,” said Lloris. “They are experienced players. They are a part of this team and have been part of this team for a long time.
“They are great leaders, I played with them at Tottenham and I have, no doubt, that for such a game that they will play at their best level.
On whether Spurs should have kept them: “Well, it’s not a question for me. I am not the person in charge.
“But I had great years with them and it will be a pleasure to see them and meet them tomorrow before the game.”
Alderweireld left Spurs this summer and headed towards the sunnier climates of Qatar.
Whereas his partner in crime, Vertonghen, is seeing out his career in Portugal with Benfica.
The ice-cold defender recently rolled back the years by helping his club beat Barcelona in the Champions League.
Spurs, on the other hand, were beating NS Mura in the Europa Conference League, it has been a drastic change since those Mauricio Pochettino days.
