Michal Karbownik could sign a new contract at Legia Warsaw, but that does not mean Celtic or Tottenham Hotspur would have no chance of signing one of Europe’s most coveted youngsters, president Dariusz Mioduski has told Sport.pl.
Is there a more typically Celtic signing than a 19-year-old Pole who has shot to fame back home during an impressive breakthrough season at Legia Warsaw?
After all, the Hoops have made signing talented, little-known prospects their trademark in recent times. Odsonne Edouard, Victor Wanyama, Virgil van Dijk and Boli Bolingoli all arrived in Glasgow as relative unknowns of course.
Celtic have already snapped up one Polish teen this year in the shape of striker Patryk Klimala and, according to the Record, Karbownik could follow in his footsteps.
The latter would cost a lot more than the former, however. The Mirror (26 April, page 68) claim that Karbownik is valued at £10 million, whilst also catching the eye of bona fide European giants Tottenham, Barcelona and Napoli.
Recent speculation suggests that Karbownik could sign a new deal but, as the Legia president points out, that would not make a summer sale any more unlikely.

“Michal deserves a raise and a new contract. I expect him to sign a contract,” Mioduski says.
“(But) if he has a real opportunity to leave and join a club that is beneficial for him and us, we will find a solution. I would not associate the signing of the contract with the transfer.”
Karbownik, a rampaging left-back with seven assists this season, is set to become a free agent in 2021 as it stands. That prospective new deal feels like an attempt to ensure the youngster’s value does not drop over the next few months, even if a summer exit does not materialise.
