Sol Campbell has wished Asmir Begovic ‘all the best’ on Instagram after he sealed a move to Everton.
The 34-year-old, who left Championship side Bournemouth at the end of last season, signed on a free transfer for Everton on Tuesday.
Whilst Jordan Pickford, who was one of England’s stars at Euro 2020, is Everton’s number one shot-stopper, they needed a stronger back-up and have opted for Begovic’s vast amount of experience.
From donning the gloves at Chelsea to scoring a goal in the colours of Stoke City, this seems like a pretty shrewd bit of business from those in the Goodison Park boardroom.
Former Arsenal player, Campbell wrote in the comments section of Begovic’s Instagram post “Well done. All the best.”
Whilst ex-Toffees man, Sylvain Distin, urged Begovic to ‘enjoy this fantastic atmosphere’ at Goodison Park.
Begovic wasn’t the only free transfer to arrive on Merseyside yesterday because Andros Townsend has also been snapped up.
He left Crystal Palace this month, and after starting his career at Tottenham many years ago, it’s now taken him to another club with European aspirations.
It seems as though Everton have distanced themselves from splashing the cash this summer and have opted for a more low-key approach.
In truth, they cannot be blamed because the big-money signings of the past from Alex Iwobi to Theo Walcott simply haven’t worked out.
