Leeds United look poised to complete their first major signing of the summer – and it’s a notable one.
The Whites have been heavily linked with a move for Barcelona left-back Junior Firpo in recent weeks.
And there was an exciting development from The Athletic today with the report that the player has touched down in England ahead of sealing a move to Leeds under Marcelo Bielsa.
The simple fact that a club like Barca signed Firpo in 2019 illustrates that he’s quite a high-profile player.
And suffice to say that even some fans of rival clubs are giving the Elland Road club credit for what they’re seemingly about to pull off.
Not the last
Leeds’ director of football Victor Orta has already signed 18-year-old Amari Miller – who will go into the Under-23 squad – and a permanent deal was announced for Jack Harrison on Saturday.
But Harrison has been in West Yorkshire since 2018 and Firpo, if it goes through, would be their first ‘proper’ signing of the transfer window.
Under Bielsa, the Whites had an incredible first year back in the Premier League last season, securing a ninth-placed finish and narrowly finished behind Arsenal and Spurs in eighth and seventh respectively.
But the veteran Argentine, nor Orta, will rest on his laurels and it’s very possible that other exciting players could follow Firpo to Elland Road.
