Everton winger Anthony Gordon has told Reece James that his new six-year deal at Chelsea is ‘well deserved’, as he posted on the player’s Instagram.

Chelsea were the biggest spenders of the 2022 summer transfer window, splashing well above £200 million on players, with Gordon one of the names on Thomas Tuchel’s wishlist, but a move didn’t materialise.

After breaking the all-time record for spending in the transfer market, Chelsea are now securing the long-term talents of their already-established stars.

England international James is certainly one of them and he has added six more years to his stay at Stamford Bridge after coming through the club’s ranks.

When the news was announced, a number of players reacted in the comments section of James’ IG post, with Gordon posting, ‘Well deserved. Congrats bro’.

West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice added: ‘Congrats Reecey. Fully deserved brother’ and Ben Chilwell told him ‘Just the start’.

GORDON SHINING BRIGHT DESPITE TRANSFER TALK

Wesley Fofana signed for Chelsea during the summer transfer market and the manner in which he left Leicester City didn’t exactly put him in a great light.

But whilst Gordon’s name was also on that transfer train Fofana got on, the Everton winger put his head down and steamed ahead under Frank Lampard, instead.

That included scoring in back-to-back matches for the Toffees when the window was still open, and whilst Richarlison’s exit was a blow to the club, it seems as though they already have a replacement from within in Gordon himself.

It will also be interesting to see how far Gordon is in earning an England call because Gareth Southgate is due to name his squad ahead of the forthcoming international matches and his names deserves to be talked about.
