Some Tottenham Hotspur fans have been left upset that they didn’t quite manage to snap up Carlos Vinicius on a permanent deal.
No deal
Vinicius joined Tottenham on loan from Benfica last summer, and went on to make 22 appearances for the North London club.
The Brazilian forward scored on 10 occasions, although mainly in cup competition.
It now transpires that Vinicius’ form seemed to be enough to convince Tottenham to keep him around on a longer-term basis.
However, they were unable to agree a deal with Benfica for the target-man.
“Yes, at times Tottenham wanted to, but ended up not being able,” Vinicius said to Zero Zero, when asked if Spurs tried to buy him.
“I took advantage, gave my best, proved my worth and I believe the Tottenham staff, including the fans, liked it.”
Those comments have ended up leaving many Spurs fans disappointed, as they feel that Vinicius could have been a valuable addition to the group if they had managed to sign him.
Striker search ongoing
Tottenham ultimately never managed to land a replacement for Vinicius.
Spurs were linked with a whole host of strikers over the summer, but none of their moves proved successful.
Vinicius did show signs of quality during his time at Spurs, but he never quite looked like a viable option to compete with Harry Kane for the long-term.
His impact in the Premier League was often minimal, even if he was generally limited to substitute appearances.
Since leaving Spurs, Vinicius has since gone out on loan to PSV Eindhoven, where he has made four league appearances.
