Pep Guardiola has sarcastically stated that Manchester City ‘will be champions’ after Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur were knocked out of the EFL Cup on Wednesday night, as he told his press conference.

It was an evening to forget for those in the capital because a host of London sides were knocked out of the League Cup.

Chelsea were beaten 2-0 by Guardiola’s Man City, whilst Spurs suffered a surprise defeat, by the same scoreline, to Premier League strugglers Nottingham Forest.

Mikel Arteta hasn’t suffered many defeats this term, but Brighton rocked up to the Emirates and booked their place in the next round – Crystal Palace and West Ham also bowed out.

Either way, when Guardiola was asked to share his thoughts on Spurs and Arsenal getting knocked out, he issued the following response.

“We will be champions already, thank you,” said Guardiola.

“We are confident with the fact that it doesn’t matter, I said it from day one, it doesn’t matter the game we play. Friendly game. EFL Cup. Premier League. Champions League or FA Cup.

“We play to win the game and this is the standard we are going to set at this club. The consistency in every competition. We have to do our job.”

MAN CITY AND LIVERPOOL FAVOURITES

In years gone by, Man City have utterly dominated this competition, so after Liverpool won it last season, they are probably due to adding another one to their cabinet.

Jurgen Klopp’s side also booked their name into the next round by seeing off League One outfit Derby County in pretty difficult circumstances because they had to win on penalties.

Either way, the above duo are probably favourites to reach Wembley, especially given the number of European teams that have already gone out at such an early stage.
