Italian legend Paolo Maldini has confirmed that AC Milan held previous talks with the agent of Tottenham defender Serge Aurier, as quoted by Get Italian Football News.
Sky Sports have reported from Italy that AC Milan are interested in signing Aurier if they lose their own right-backs this summer.
Maldini, director at AC Milan, did make it clear that they will be ‘active’ in the transfer market, as Spurs fans could potentially lose their senior man on the right.
This is what Maldini had to say about the interest in Aurier:
‘We had spoken last year with his agent, there was a possibility,” said Maldini. “We will be active in the market.”
Aurier moved to Tottenham in 2017 when the London club paid PSG £23 million for his services [BBC Sport].
It’s fair to say that Aurier still has many doubters out there in North London, mainly because he has this erratic nature to his defending, can easily get booked and give away needless free-kicks and penalties.
But when Aurier is on the top of his game, he looks absolutely quality, both in defence and when he is powering forward.
It could be argued that Spurs cannot afford to lose Aurier because that then leaves youngster Kyle Walker-Peters as the only recognised right-back, and he was on-loan at Southampton for the second half of last season.
