Arsenal have secured the signing of Nuno Tavares from Benfica and West Ham forward, Mesaque Dju, has welcomed him to the Premier League on Instagram.

In what is Arsenal’s first signing of the summer, they have secured the talents of the 21-year-old for £8 million to be the back-up to Kieran Tierney, as reported by BBC Sport.

Pre-season has already begun for a number of Premier League teams, including Arsenal, so Tavares will be expected to be thrown straight into the action.

After it was announced that Arsenal had snapped up his talents, he posted the two following messages on Instagram.

The first was a goodbye video to Benfica, which included a compilation of some of his best moments, before his second post simply wrote ‘Here we go’.

West Ham’s Dju, who also came through the Benfica ranks, responded in the comments section to his arrival in England with this four-word post: ‘Welcome to London bro’.

Arsenal’s fans have landed their first hit of the transfer window and many supporters will be hoping more good things are to come.

After finishing outside of the European places last season, the Gunners need to show that they are trying to build the platform to get back on track, else Mikel Arteta will be out of the door before he knows it.

Arteta could have been given the chop on a number of occasions last season – over Christmas and when they were knocked out to Villarreal in the Europa League.

But if Arsenal start off in a shaky manner for the forthcoming campaign then it’s going to interesting to see how the fans and those in the boardroom react.
