Rangers have been handed something of a transfer boost this afternoon, as Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes has confirmed that Kenny McLean is leaving the club in 2018.

McLean, 25, made his name with St Mirren before his performances earned him a move to Aberdeen in February 2015, and he has continued to impress at Pittodrie.

With 14 goals in his two full seasons with Aberdeen before this term, McLean has become a key part of McInnes’ side, and he attracted major interest over the summer transfer window.

As reported by the Daily Record, Rangers made a bid for McLean in June, believed to be worth around £300,000, but the Dons stood firm and kept hold of the midfielder in the hope of tying him down to a new contract.

With McLean’s existing deal expiring at the end of the season, Aberdeen have been well aware that he could leave for free in 2018 – and their worst fears appear to have been confirmed.

As quoted by the club’s official Twitter account, Dons manager McInnes has confirmed that McLean has informed the club of his intention to move on in 2018, whether that be in a pre-contract agreement in January or waiting until the end of the season.

With Rangers potentially lining up a pre-contract deal or even a cut-price January move, fans have taken to Twitter to offer their reactions to McInnes’ revelation.

A possible move to Ibrox for the boyhood Rangers fan has split supporters, with some believing that he would be a smart addition to the Gers midfield, with some already welcoming him to Ibrox, they’re so confident of a deal.

However, others aren’t quite so convinced, feeling that McLean isn’t much better than what Rangers already have, and they need better in order to chase down Celtic, whilst one fan even wanted manager McInnes to follow McLean to Ibrox in place of manager Pedro Caixinha.
