If rumours are believed, Kylian Mbappe wants to join Liverpool if he does leave Paris Saint-Germain.
Duncan Castles revealed on his Transfer Window Podcast in April that Mbappe has told friends that he would favour a move to Liverpool.
His future in the French capital is looking very uncertain due to the fact his contract expires next summer.
According to Guillem Balague, PSG want £156 million for the 22-year-old marksman if they do sell during the upcoming transfer window, with HITC Sport covering his tweet at the time.
But Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino has insisted that Mbappe himself is happy in the French capital – but doesn’t know if he’ll stay if they fail to win the Champions League.
Pochettino, whose side lost a semi-final first leg at home to Manchester City in midweek, said via Goal: “It’s a question for Kylian and not for me. We lost a game but there is still the return leg and weird things can happen in the Champions League. He has one more year of contract. I said it before but the club and I are doing our best to ensure that he stays for many years. The club is working on it and Kylian Mbappe is happy with us.”
Mbappe holds all the cards here, really.
But even if he wants to leave Pochettino’s side, is it a guarantee that he’ll join Liverpool? Absolutely not.
That’s because the reigning Premier League champions are sixth in the table right now and there’s a real possibility that they won’t even have Champions League football next term.
And can you see Mbappe playing in the Europa League? Clearly not.
Liverpool’s finances will be hit in a big way if they don’t finish in the top four and it’s pretty clear that they’ll struggle to afford the £156 million needed to fund a deal for the former Monaco ace.
