Jeff Hendrick has been speaking to Sky Sports about the takeover, after Mike Ashley was finally ousted from his role at Newcastle.
What’s the story?
Well, the arrival of the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, Amanda Staveley and Jamie Reuben happened while Hendrick was away.
The £40,385-a-week man admitted that he’s found it ‘a bit weird’ being away from Tyneside while everything has been going on.
After the Republic of Ireland beat Qatar 4-0, Hendrick said: “It was crazy. It was back on, then it was done in no time at all. It’s been a bit weird being away from it, but I’m looking forward to getting back and seeing how things are.”
It must’ve been very strange for those Newcastle players who are away on international duty.
They’ve had to watch from afar as the Magpies became an entirely different club overnight, with £190m said to be in the bank for new signings.
When Hendrick returns to Tyneside, he should expect Newcastle to feel completely different to the days under Ashley.
Should the Newcastle takeover worry Jeff Hendrick?
As revealed by the Daily Mail, Steve Bruce is set to be handed his P45 as the new owners look to put their stamp on Newcastle.
Staveley, Reuben and the PIF are also looking for new recruits, with Philippe Coutinho, Dele Alli and Franck Kessie among the rumoured targets.
If players of that calibre arrive at St James’ Park, Hendrick should probably be worried about his future at Newcastle.
The Magpies can afford to upgrade nearly every position on the pitch, so there will be plenty of worried faces at Newcastle.
Hopefully, Newcastle’s newfound wealth will actually make the likes of Hendrick perform better, as they know the pressure is on to avoid being replaced.
It makes a nice change from everyone at Newcastle accepting mediocrity, to say the least.
