Callum O’Hare scored goals for fun in the Aston Villa youth ranks and could prove very useful to Steve Bruce.
Aston Villa fans may have only been given a fleeting glance of Callum O’Hare but they already like what they see.
The 19-year-old attacker made his debut for Villa in the EFL Cup second round victory over Colchester United earlier this month before coming off the bench with half an hour remaining in the 3-0 trouncing at Cardiff City a few days later.
The sample size may be small but Villa already appear to have another talented youngster on their hands, one capable of following Keinan Davis and Andre Green into the first-team picture.
And manager Steve Bruce’s willingness to hand Villa’s next generation the odd opportunity in the first team last season suggests this is not the last supporters will see of the Solihull-born attacker.
“Young Callum ran a million miles on Wednesday,” Bruce said after O’Hare impressed against Colchester, per the Birmingham Mail. “He covered the most ground, he had the highest intensity on the pitch and won every physical stat by a country mile.
“He’s a breath of fresh air.”
Though a natural number 10, O’Hare shot to fame with a glut of goals in Villa’s various youth ranks and it’s this end product that could make him useful to Bruce in the near future.
After all, Villa’s striker problems are well established despite spending big fees on attacking reinforcements last summer with Jonathan Kodjia and Scott Hogan struggling with injuries at the start of the season.
O’Hare, therefore, could force his way into Bruce’s plans by adding efficiency to his energy.
