Sheffield Wednesday star Sam Hutchinson has hit back at his doubters by explaining that there is really only one man’s opinion that he cares about when it comes to football, as quoted by The Star.

Since joining Wednesday from Chelsea, Hutchinson has been subject to a great deal of criticism from Owls fans due to the amount of games he has missed.

Some of this is down to injury which is not exactly his fault, but his recent suspension did not help matters.

His injury came from a back problem he was having during the clash with Brighton, while his suspension was due to the red card he received against Bristol City.

But as the 27-year-old explains, the only man’s opinion that matters is manager Carlos Carvalhal.

“There are always going to be doubters about over whether I’m going to get booked or injured,” Hutchinson told The Star.

“I don’t need to prove anyone anything. I know what I am and I know what the club think of me and the gaffer. As long as the gaffer is happy with me, I don’t really care what people think.

“As long as he puts me on that teamsheet, I’m doing something right for him. I will always try to please the gaffer, the staff and the club.”

Wednesday fans will be hoping he can put in a string of consistent performances in the months to come as the club aim to make a surge for the play-offs once again.

Their next task following the international break is a trip to take on high-flying Huddersfield Town.
