Everton manager Frank Lampard has confirmed the Goodison Park side want to sign Conor Coady permanently. But a deal to keep the on-loan Wolves star is not on the cards just yet.
Lampard agreed a season-long loan deal to sign Coady in August as he sought to improve Everton’s backline. The centre-back was Wolves’ club captain. Yet Bruno Lage agreed to let him leave after dropping the 29-year-old to his bench. A decision he would come to regret.

Wolves sacked Lage at the start of October after losing nine of their last 15 Premier League games. A defeat by West Ham United also left the Molineux outfit inside the bottom three. They would fail to pull themselves off the bottom of the table before the World Cup break.

But on Merseyside, Coady has been a huge success from his first appearance in royal blue. The 10-cap England star, who went to Qatar 2022 in Gareth Southgate’s squad, has taken Lampard’s backline to another level. He has started all 14 of the top-flight games he could.
Everton have relished the vocal presence Coady has provided since Lampard agreed a deal to sign Wolves’ skipper on loan. His leadership has further helped the Toffees to boast the fourth-best Premier League defence. Over 15 games, Everton have conceded just 17 goals.

Coady has also impressed as an Everton player with his ability on the ball and for providing a calming presence. Now, he could secure a permanent move to Goodison at a bargain fee in 2023. The Telegraph claims the Toffees have an option to buy the 29-year-old for £4.5m.
Wolves allowed Everton to sign Coady on loan with a shockingly cheap option for Lampard to then buy him permanently. But the Toffees boss has confirmed that while he wants the Liverpool-born enforcer to stay on Merseyside, a move to use their clause is not imminent.
“Conor Coady has been brilliant since he’s been here in every possible way,” Lampard said, via talkSPORT. “We’d like to make that permanent. But it’s not happening for now.”
