Jurgen Klopp has intimated that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is on the verge of producing some very stellar performances for Liverpool once again.
The former Arsenal winger is enduring another indifferent season under the German manager at Liverpool, it has to be said.
Across all competitions, Oxlade-Chamberlain, a £40 million signing in 2017, has managed only 12 starts this season.
Klopp revealed that the player was ‘disappointed’ to be benched for the Carabao Cup outing against Arsenal in midweek, having started all three games in the competition prior to Thursday.
However, the Liverpool has confidently predicted that ‘we will see’ clear examples of his overall contentment at Liverpool over the coming weeks.
He told Liverpool’s official website: “I’m absolutely happy with Ox, to be honest, he’s in a really good moment and we will see that in the next few weeks.”
Consistency
Despite Klopp’s confidence here, it wouldn’t surprise supporters of the Anfield club if actually, Oxlade-Chamberlain didn’t improve.
Yes, he looked lively and vibrant off the bench against the Gunners in midweek, but consistency has long been the England international’s primary problem – not only on Merseyside, but in senior football as a whole.
Oxlade-Chamberlain could suddenly become a massive player at Liverpool but, remember, he.has experienced major purple patches in the past without ever really producing the goods on a regular basis.
Thing is, with midfield absences, Klopp does actually need him to dazzle in light of Naby Keita being at AFCON and Thiago being injured.
But time will tell whether he answers the call.
