Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has told Mozzart Sport he ‘will see’ what the future holds for him at Lazio, after a reported approach from Liverpool last year as the Reds weighed up a transfer.
The Serbian midfielder is nearing the final two-years of his contract at the Stadio Olimpico. But he has no clarity over what the Biancocelesti are planning for his time at the club.
Milinkovic-Savic last extended his deal in 2020 as President Claudio Lotito bid to protect against losing a key player. A stance he kept last year, with Calciomercato noting the Lazio chief told Liverpool to pay €80m (£67m) after the Anfield side tested the water for a transfer.
Manchester United also entered the Milinkovic-Savic race in 2021, per Calciomercato. The Italian publication also added the 26-year-old’s agent, Mateja Kezman, has an arrangement with Lotito to facilitate a transfer. But their agreement only starts at the end of the season.
Lotito retaining the 28-cap maestro has brought Lazio boss Maurizio Sarri continued joy so far this season. Milinkovic-Savic hit two goals and provided an assist as the Biancocelesti drew 3-3 with Empoli on Thursday. He has now struck seven of each in 19 Serie A games.

Milinkovic-Savic has read some of the speculation on his future at Lazio, but the Liverpool target does not believe any of the transfer rumours have resulted in concrete interest yet.
However, he will soon explore what the Rome outfit have in store for his future in sky blue.
“Something is being written non-stop,” he said. “I read it, it goes in one ear and comes out the other. I didn’t pay too much attention to it. When there was something concrete, the club did not let me go.
“I stayed there, extended the contract and we continued some new joint cycle. I have two more years of contract and we will see what will happen.
“Maybe I paid attention to that when I was younger. Now that I’m getting older and older, I understand that a little better. I just read and I don’t care. Until there is something concrete, you can read as much as you want.”
Milinkovic-Savic has started 18 of his 19 Serie A outings so far this season. He also opened two of their Europa League group stage ties, but failed to score or assist in six appearances.
