Liverpool have a mountain to climb if they want to retain their title

Jurgen Klopp has called on Liverpool fans to “show character” as the champions undergo a Premier League slump.
Their hopes of retaining the title appear remote following Sunday’s 4-1 defeat at Anfield against Manchester City, with the visitors now 10 points ahead of Klopp’s men having played one game less.
Liverpool remain in fourth place, with securing a spot in next season’s Champions League now looking a more realistic target.
The latest dismal result meant that a side which had gone 68 games unbeaten at Anfield has now lost three consecutive home matches in the space of 18 days.
After a match which saw Alisson make two horrendous errors that led to goals while his outfield players failed to emulate their relentless style of previous seasons, Klopp issued a rallying cry for supporters.

Speaking to LFC TV, Klopp said: “The dressing room is completely sad. It’s a tough time for all of us, and I’m sure four our supporters at home as well.
“I only want in this moment to remember it’s easy to believe when it’s going well. Now we have altogether to show character.
“I will make sure that the team will do that, and I will be pleased if our fanbase could do that as well.
“The boys deliver a lot of good stuff, and we don’t rely on that and want to mention it.
“Have a look at the detail of that game tonight, and if you didn’t see a really good football team, who will win football games again, I don’t know exactly.

“We don’t take it easy, not at all, and that really hurts tonight, again, and we got a lot of knocks in the last couple of weeks, but we will go again.
“If you are only really united together when you’re winning there is something wrong with you, so we have now to show really that we go through this together.
“We will go. It’s a tough moment in a tough season, in a strange situation for us, and I saw a lot of good things tonight, so now what we have to make sure is that we show it again and again and again.
“That’s clear, but now we have a full training week and I really think that will help as well.”
