Tottenham Hotspur fans have reacted on Twitter to Georginio Wijnaldum sharing that Mauricio Pochettino wanted to sign him at Spurs, as he told the Guardian.
Wijnaldum left Liverpool when his contract expired this summer and he has since taken his midfield talents to France.
Pochettino is the man running PSG’s ship in Ligue 1 and he has seemingly linked up with a player he wanted long before this summer.
Back in 2016, Spurs signed a Newcastle player in the form of Moussa Sissoko, whose club teammate made the switch to Liverpool following the Magpies relegation.
But Wijnaldum told the Guardian that Pochettino wanted him in North London instead.
Spurs fans aren’t surprised at what they are hearing from the Premier League title-winner, who was also pivotal in the Reds winning the European Cup for the sixth time in 2019.
Given how both Wijnaldum and Sissoko have performed over the years, it’s no surprise that the Spurs supporters are a little frustrated with their club.
And whilst Pochettino wasn’t backed as strongly as he should have been during his tenure at the club, it’s not going to be an issue with PSG.
But with that huge backing, also comes massive pressure and even if Pochettino wins the Ligue 1 title next season, it still might not be enough to keep the critics away.
It’s pretty obvious that PSG crave one thing and one thing only, and that’s the Champions League.
