Mauricio Pochettino has raved about Tottenham Hotspur and France international goalkeeper Hugo Lloris in The Athletic.

Pochettino worked with Lloris when he was the Tottenham head coach, and the Argentine believes that criticisms aimed at the £110,000-a-week (SalarySport) goalkeeper over the years have been unfair.

The former Tottenham boss has said that he was pleased when Lloris won the 2018 World Cup finals with France in Russia.

The 35-year-old is part of the France squad for the 2022 World Cup finals in Qatar.

Lloris has been on the books of Tottenham since 2012 and is still the the number one goalkeeper for the North London club.

Pochettino said about Lloris: “We knew very well how he suffered in his career, working so hard.

“Sometimes it was so unfair, when they criticised him. To culminate with him winning the World Cup, it shows that all the people who trusted in him, we were right.”

Top quality

In our view, Hugo Lloris has been one of the best goalkeepers in the world over the years and remains an important figure at Tottenham Hotspur.

Yes, the 35-year-old makes mistakes from time to time, but which player does not?

Lloris is a leader at the back who is very good at shot-stopping.

Tottenham and France are better teams with Lloris in them.
