Leeds United director of football Victor Orta has told The Yorkshire Evening Post that Rangers did not want to sell Ryan Kent in the summer transfer window.
Orta has said that Leeds tried to sign the former Liverpool winger, but the Ibrox club made it clear that they did not want to cash in on the 23-year-old.
The Times reported in August that Leeds had made a bid of £10 million for Kent, but it was turned down by the Gers.
Rangers manager Steven Gerrard himself confirmed the offer from the Premier League club, as quoted on talkSPORT in August.
Orta told The Yorkshire Evening Post: “I think [Kent’s] club doesn’t want to sell him. We tried and we believe clearly Glasgow Rangers doesn’t want the player to leave. It was never their plan to put Kent in the market.”
Sensible stance
Kent is one of the best wingers in the Scottish Premiership and is a key figure in the current Rangers team.
It made sense for the Gers to turn down the approach from Leeds, as they need the former Liverpool winger to win the Scottish Premiership title this season ahead of bitter Old Firm rivals Celtic.
According to WhoScored, Kent has scored four goals and provided one assist in 10 Scottish Premiership matches for Rangers so far this season.
