Everton beat Swansea City to the loan signing of West Ham United’s Enner Valencia on transfer deadline day and it is fair to say not everyone is happy.

The Toffees had looked to be signing Newcastle United’s Moussa Sissoko for £30 million in one of the biggest deadline day deals.

But they were beaten to the France star’s signature by rivals Tottenham Hotspur at the 11th hour.

Instead Ronald Koeman sealed a late deal of his own by securing the loan with an option to buy of Valencia, who has fallen down the pecking order at West Ham.

Valencia way down Hammers pecking order

Valencia would have eventually found himself behind the injured duo Andy Carroll and Andre Ayew while the Hammers have also signed Juventus and Italy star Simeone Zaza, impressive youngster Ashley Fletcher and Jonathan Calleri.

Diafra Sakho, who was also expected to leave the club, would also have been ahead of the Ecuadorian after his own return from injury.

West Ham fans have lost patience with the player nicknamed Superman in his native South America.

A lack of goals, a lack of effort at times and his frustrating ability to find himself in an offside position all too often have grated on West Ham fans.

Playing for his future?

But Toffees supporters will be hoping he plays for his future at Goodison Park with some displays more akin to those which saw the Hammers snap him up for £12 million from Mexican side Pachucha in 2014.

While some Swansea fans were angry after seeing their side miss out on the pacy forward, it is fair to say Toffees supporters were not exactly bowled over.

The majority of posts from Everton fans in the wake of the announcement were far from complimentary with one supporter telling the club “Everytime people start to like you again you do these things to us.”
