Speaking on his podcast, Phil Hay has shared what Andrea Radrizzani told him about the club’s finances in terms of the January transfer window.
The Whites of course didn’t make a single signing in January, and that seems to be down to the financial impact spending £100 million on new players had in the summer.
It’s not all that surprising to hear this, but it is interesting to see Radrizzani’s approach to the two transfer windows playing out.
“Leeds said at the outset that they weren’t going to do anything and they had nothing planned,” Hay said.
“I think financially, when we spoke to Radrizzani , he was pretty clear in saying that the summer window and the commitment of £100m to the deals they did then meant there wasn’t much scope to sign players in January.
“They always have their eyes open in case anything comes up that they feel they shouldn’t miss, but in reality there is a limit and there’s only so far you can push things.”

It looks as though Leeds spent about all they can spend this summer, and that’s a sign of the ambition they showed upon their promotion.
Fortunately, Leeds are in a position where they didn’t really need any new players through the door this month, but we have to wonder what would have happened if they were struggling.
Would Radrizzani have gambled and broken the bank to sign someone to help propel them up the table? Or are the financial restraints on the club too grand to even consider spending?
Of course, we may never know, Leeds are comfortably mid-table and it looks as though the squad Radrizzani and Victor Orta assembled in the summer is good enough to keep them up.
