Alan Shearer has stated that Frank Lampard has a ‘bigger’ problem at Everton than he first imagined, as he told Premier League Productions (13/03/22 at 7:25 pm).

The former striker added, just like Leeds United prior to their 2-1 win at Norwich, those at Goodison Park are thinking ‘where is our next point coming from?’.

During Everton’s last 20 Premier League matches, the club have only picked up a staggering nine points.

Whilst Leeds recorded a late, late win over the weekend, Norwich, Newcastle and Burnley did lose to the relief of Everton.

Either way, Shearer sent this blunt warning regarding relegation to Lampard and the ‘huge challenge’ he is facing.

“It would be a very, very nervy time for them and the players,” said Shearer.

“Very much like we spoke about Leeds and the run they were on, you are thinking ‘where is our next point coming from?’. It doesn’t matter how it comes, it just has to arrive somewhere. They pick up a little bit of confidence and they may go on from that. But it’s not going to be easy.

“Huge challenge (for Lampard). Maybe a bigger one than he thought and hoped. He would have hoped for more points on the board than he has actually got.

“Probably more problems at the football club than he had hoped. When you look at the next game, Newcastle, in fighting form, so that will be another tough game for them. They are right up against it.”

It’s Shearer’s old club Newcastle up next for Everton and they are a prime example of how to turn things around.

Before Christmas, the Magpies couldn’t even win a game of football, as they were seemingly heading down before they could get their new owners in.

But Eddie Howe has transformed the club, not just with the January signings, but those players who were struggling before he arrived.

In recent weeks, they have been without key players, yet they have still managed to pick up points.

That’s the magic Lampard is trying to find at Goodison Park, but time is against him.
