Anton Ferdinand thinks Tottenham fans might feel ‘we shouldn’t have got rid’ of Dele Alli if he gets his ‘confidence’ back at Everton, as he told Sky Sports.

On transfer deadline day, Spurs parted ways with Alli who left for fellow Premier League side, Everton.

Alli was at Tottenham for seven years and he enjoyed some quite special moments at the club.

From helping the north London outfit reach the Champions League final to some wonder goals, including that incredible volley against Crystal Palace.

But constant seasons of stagnation has resulted in him losing his goalscoring touch, completely out of the England picture and out of favour with various Spurs managers.

And former Premier League defender, Anton Ferdinand, thinks Frank Lampard is a great fit for the attack-minded midfielder to get back to his best.

“Dele Alli has needed this for a while,” said Ferdinand. “A change. To get a spring in his step.

“I think someone who can do that is Frank Lampard. He played similar to Lampard, in terms of making late runs into the box. If anyone can get the best out of him and I am sure Dele has identified that he is the man who can do that.

“He now has time to go into a team where he knows he’s going to play. And with that can breed confidence.

“And a confident Dele Alli is a Dele Alli where a lot of Tottenham supporters can look at it and say ‘we shouldn’t have got rid of him in the first place’.”

Years after being likened to Lampard and their knack to score goals from the middle of the park, Alli now has the chance to work with the legendary player.

Alli has no one else to blame but himself after struggling under the likes of Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Sano and Antonio Conte.

But, the one blessing for the Englishman is that all those managers are defensive-minded and perhaps ask a lot more of him without the ball.

Perhaps Lampard, who is more attack-minded, will suit what Alli needs out on the pitch and it won’t be too long before he is banging in the goals again.
